A renter's guide to Halásztelek
Halásztelek sits on the western side of Csepel Island on the main Danube arm, directly south of district XXI and west of Szigetszentmiklós, with about 10,000 people. It grew from a farm estate called Hermina-telep into a village of allotments and summer houses, and since the 1990s into a young commuter town where most streets are family houses with gardens built or rebuilt in the last thirty years. The centre is small: the main road through, the church, the schools, a few shops and the bus stops.
There is no rail. The town's link to the city is the road up to Csepel and the Volánbusz, and that shapes everything: it is a place people move to with a car, for the house and the garden, not for the commute. The Danube side has the flood dyke, a bank path and the wide river with Százhalombatta's refinery across the water, which is the one view people either accept or do not.

Getting around
- Volánbusz up the island to Csepel, Szent Imre tér and the Csepel end of the H7 HÉV in about 25 to 35 minutes, then HÉV to Boráros tér; count 65 to 75 minutes to Deák tér. Buses every 15 to 30 minutes in the peak, hourly at night.
- Volánbusz to Kőbánya-Kispest and the M3 metro via the M0, about 40 to 50 minutes, useful for the eastern side of the city.
- The nearest HÉV is the H6 at Szigetszentmiklós, 10 minutes by car or bus; many people drive to it and park.
- By car: the M0 interchange at Szigetszentmiklós is 10 minutes, the M6 and M7 side via the M0 bridge 15 to 20; Csepel and the Rákóczi bridge take 25 minutes off-peak and an hour in the morning. The single road north is the bottleneck.
- Without a car you are limited to the bus and the shops on the main road; nearly every household here drives.
What the homes are like
Almost entirely houses: 1980s to 2020s detached and semi-detached family houses on regular streets, older summer houses turned homes on the Duna side, and new terraced estates on the Szigetszentmiklós edge. Flats are a handful of units in small new buildings on the main road; a one-room flat is rare enough that the figure here is a guide, not a market. The typical kiadó ház has two or three bedrooms, a garden, a garage or carport and gas heating.
Ask about the sewer connection on the older streets, check the boiler and the insulation, and look at the plot on the map: the lowest streets by the dyke can get groundwater in a wet spring. Landlords here are usually the owner, not an agency, so the deposit and the utility arrangement are negotiable; ask what happens with the garden upkeep and the waste fee.
Who it suits
Families with a car who want a house with a garden close to Csepel and the M0, people who work in the southern industrial areas or in Százhalombatta across the river, and anyone who values quiet over speed. Not suited to someone without a car, or to anyone who needs a fast daily trip to the centre.

By Volánbusz to Csepel and then the H7 HÉV to Boráros tér, about 65 to 75 minutes to the centre, or by bus over the M0 to Kőbánya-Kispest and the metro. There is no rail in the town; the nearest HÉV is at Szigetszentmiklós.
Are there flats to rent in Halásztelek?
Very few. The market is family houses with gardens; the odd two-room flat appears in a small new building on the main road, and one-room flats almost never. If you need a flat, look at Szigetszentmiklós or Csepel instead.
Does Halásztelek flood?
The town is behind a dyke on the main Danube and has not flooded in living memory, but the lowest streets near the river get groundwater in wet years. Ask about the cellar and the last high water before renting close to the dyke.
