A renter's guide to Vecsés
Vecsés is the town on the far side of the airport from the city: it borders district XVIII along Pestszentlőrinc and the Ferihegy runways, and route 4, the old Kecskemét road, runs straight through it as its main street. Around 21,000 people live here, more than in any other town in the airport belt, and the place has the shape of a large village that has filled in: an old centre with the Catholic church and a market, several distinct quarters of family houses, and a ring of logistics parks and hotels along the M0 and the airport fence.
The airport defines it. Both runways point north-west to south-east, so aircraft landing towards the north-west come in over Üllő and Vecsés and those departing to the south-east climb out over them; how much you hear depends on the quarter and the wind. In return the town has short trips to every motorway and a job market on the doorstep, from airline and ground crews to the warehouses and hotels.

Getting around
- MÁV line 100a from Vecsés or Vecsés-Kertekalja to Kőbánya-Kispest in about 10 to 15 minutes, where metro M3 continues; to Nyugati in 25 to 30 minutes. Trains run every 30 minutes, more in the peak, and the same line stops at Ferihegy for the airport.
- Volánbusz along route 4 (Üllői út) to Kőbánya-Kispest and Népliget; BKK bus 200E to the airport terminal from Kőbánya-Kispest passes the Ferihegy side.
- There is no HÉV.
- By car: the M0 junction at route 4 is on the northern edge and the M4 starts here towards Szolnok; the M5 is 10 minutes, the M3 20. Route 4 into the city reaches the Nagyvárad tér area in 30 minutes off-peak and 50 to 70 in the morning.
- Near the two stations you can commute without a car; in Halmi-telep and Kertekalja most households drive.
What the homes are like
Detached houses on generous plots make up most of the market: old Swabian village houses in the centre, 1970s to 1990s family houses in Andrássy-telep and Halmi-telep, and new detached and terraced builds on the edges. A small block estate near the centre and a few newer apartment buildings supply the two-room flats, and one-room lets tend to be annexes or rooms rented to airport staff. Because of the airport workforce, short furnished lets are more common here than in the other towns.
Ask which runway the house lies under and open the windows at a viewing: the newer houses have good glazing, older ones do not. Check the heating, whether the plot has a sewer connection, and whether the rent includes the waste fee. If you work shifts, a house near the station or the airport shuttle routes will save you a great deal of driving at odd hours.
Who it suits
Airport, airline and logistics staff, drivers who work anywhere on the M0 ring, and families who want a house with a garden and a train to the M3. Not for light sleepers in the approach quarters, or for anyone who wants a quiet rural setting.

- The southern streets around the Vecsés-Kertekalja station and the sports fields, with older houses and a slower pace; the nearest part to Üllő.
Questions people ask about Vecsés
Is Vecsés noisy because of the airport?
In parts, yes. The runways run north-west to south-east, so when aircraft land towards the north-west they pass low over the south-eastern quarters and Üllő; on other days the traffic is over Pestszentlőrinc instead. Listen at a viewing on a busy afternoon and ask the neighbours.
How do I get from Vecsés to the city centre?
Train from Vecsés to Kőbánya-Kispest in about 10 to 15 minutes, then the M3 metro; or the same train through to Nyugati in about half an hour. By car route 4 is 30 minutes off-peak and an hour in the morning.
Is Vecsés good for airport workers?
It is the obvious choice: the terminals are 10 minutes by car, there are bus links, and the town is used to shift workers and short lets. Prices reflect that demand, so it is not the cheapest town in the belt.
