A renter's guide to Maglód
Maglód sits south-east of district XVII, beyond Rákoskert and Rákoshegy, where route 31 leaves the city for Jászberény. It is a village of around 13,000 that has become a commuter town: an old core around the church and the town hall, a summer-house colony to the north that turned residential, and new streets on the edges. Ecser lies between it and Vecsés; Gyömrő continues to the east.
It is flat, quiet and functional. The M0 runs along the western edge with a junction at route 31, and the large retail park by the motorway is where most people shop. There is a station on the Sülysáp line, which is what makes a Budapest job possible without driving, but the town itself is built around the car.

Getting around
- MÁV line 120a from Maglód or Maglódi nyaraló to Keleti in 30 to 35 minutes, with trains every 30 minutes and more in the peak; the line runs via Rákoshegy and Kőbánya.
- Volánbusz along route 31 to Rákoskeresztúr in district XVII, where buses continue to Örs vezér tere.
- There is no HÉV in Maglód.
- By car: the M0 junction at route 31 is a few minutes away, so the M3, M5 and the airport are all 15 to 25 minutes off-peak; route 31 through district XVII to the centre takes 40 minutes at night and well over an hour in the morning.
- A car is close to necessary; the train covers the commute, the car covers everything else.
What the homes are like
Houses again. The old village has single-storey houses on long plots, many extended over the years; Nyaraló, the former summer-house colony around the second station, has small houses on small plots that have been rebuilt one by one; and the newest streets have terraced rows and detached houses from the 2010s and 2020s, which is where the modern three-room lets are. A few small apartment buildings have gone up near the centre, but a flat is the exception. One-room lets are annexes or a floor of a house.
Check the heating and insulation on the older houses, whether the street is paved, and whether the plot is connected to the sewer, since a few outer streets still rely on tanks. Ask what the rent covers: water, waste and the chimney sweep are billed to the property.
Who it suits
People who drive, families who want a new house with a garden at a low rent, and anyone working at the airport, in the retail and logistics zones along the M0, or in district XVII. Not for someone without a car or looking for a town with a centre.

How do I get from Maglód to Budapest without a car?
Line 120a trains from either Maglód station reach Keleti in 30 to 35 minutes, every half hour. Buses along route 31 connect to district XVII and the M2 metro at Örs vezér tere.
Is Maglód affected by airport noise?
Less than Vecsés or Üllő. The runways are a few kilometres to the south-west, and aircraft are generally higher over Maglód, but on some days with easterly approaches you will hear them.
What is the difference between Maglód and Maglódi nyaraló?
Both are railway stations in the same town. Maglód serves the old centre; Maglódi nyaraló serves the northern part that grew from a summer-house colony. Listings often name the part, so search for both.
